A Chrome screen recorder that keeps it local.

Stage

Frames the shot at the exact export aspect with corner marks. A tab source shows a last-seen photograph that becomes a live preview once recording starts; a screen source shows a still of the surface.

1. Open the recorder from the popup — setup happens in its own tab, which survives losing focus.
2. Check the corner marks: they are the exact edges of the export, so anything outside them will not be in the file.

Sources

A target picker lists every recordable tab (favicon, title, URL); browser pages and the web store say they are off limits. Surface radios: Screen / Tab / Area.

2. For Tab, pick the target from the list — browser pages and the web store are marked off limits rather than failing silently when you try.

Mic & camera

Device pickers with a live 12-segment microphone meter — measured where the microphone is, so it reads true mid-recording.

1. Pick the microphone and camera you actually want, not whatever was last plugged in.
2. Say a sentence and watch the 12-segment meter — aim for the middle of it, not the top.
3. The meter is measured at the microphone, so it keeps reading true while recording.

Boundaries

The recorder tab itself is never part of a recording, and says so. Live captures run only while the tab is visible — nothing churns in a background tab.

Area

Drag a rectangle (8 handles, size readout, arrow-key nudge, 24×24 px minimum); a 3-2-1 countdown plays before capture. Screens get no countdown — recording begins when the picker is confirmed.

1. Choose Area, then drag a rectangle over the part you want.
2. Use the handles and the size readout to get it exact; the arrow keys nudge a pixel at a time.
3. A 3-2-1 countdown plays, then recording starts — enough time to put the pointer where the video should begin.

Precision

Only the rectangle is recorded — the stream is redrawn through a canvas keeping just that region, so the file is only as large as the part you wanted. Chrome's picker never appears twice: the held stream is reused.

Fallback

If the draw loop can't keep up, it drops to 15 fps and says so, rather than silently degrading.

Memory

The last rectangle is remembered and offered again when the viewport is the same size.

1. Recording several takes of the same thing: draw the rectangle once and accept it again for each take, so every clip frames identically.

Audio mixing

Mic mixes with tab audio; tab audio echoes back to your speakers (tab capture mutes the tab), mic never does.

1. Recording something with sound: leave tab audio on and it mixes under your voice.
2. You will hear the tab echoed back to your speakers — that is deliberate, because capturing a tab mutes it.
3. Your own microphone is never echoed back, which is what stops the feedback howl.

Webcam

Recorded as its own track — composited, moved, and styled later in the editor, never burnt into the frame.

1. Turn the camera on before recording; where the bubble sits is decided later.
2. It is a separate track, so you can move it, restyle it, or drop it entirely in the editor without re-recording.

Permissions

Asked from a real tab so the prompt outlives the popup; devices remembered between sessions.

1. Grant microphone and camera access when asked — the prompt comes from a real tab, so it does not vanish the way a popup prompt does.
2. The choice is remembered, so this happens once.
