PRIVACY
Your captures never reach our servers.
LAST UPDATED — OCTOBER 15, 2026
In the Chrome extension, screenshots, recordings and edits are processed on your computer and saved in your browser's storage. Media is not uploaded to FramioCam. Licence checks and product usage events go to our app. If you connect cloud storage, your browser can upload files directly to that provider.
What is processed on your device
- Screenshots. Captured, stitched, framed and exported by your browser. The canvas that draws them is the one in the tab you are looking at.
- Recordings. Recorded, edited and encoded to MP4, WebM or GIF on your machine. They live in your browser's Origin Private File System until you export or delete them.
- Microphone and camera. Used for preview and recording when you switch them on. Your browser asks for permission and shows its own indicator while they are in use.
- Cursor movement during a recording. Positions and timings, so the editor can add zooms and click ripples afterwards — coordinates, never page text, form values or keystrokes. Saved next to the recording, on your device.
- Your settings. Backdrops, padding, watermark text, defaults. Kept in the browser's own extension storage.
What does cross the network
Account and licence information, product usage events, and any files you choose to upload to a connected cloud provider can cross the network.
- The licence check. When the extension asks what your licence allows, it sends your licence key, an install id, your browser's user-agent string and the extension's version. The install id is a random value the extension makes up for itself — it names a browser so that seats can be counted, and it says nothing about you. We note the country each browser last checked in from, so you and your team owner can see where your licence is used.
- Usage counts. Which features are used — describedbelow — with no page, title, file or anything you type.
- Your account. If you create one, we hold your name and email address, the licences issued to you, the browsers currently using them, and a record of what you have paid.
Licence checks do not include your captures. Extension usage events do not include page addresses, page titles, file names, typed text, or media.
Extension usage data
Store-installed copies send basic product usage events to FramioCam's app, including installs, active periods, captures, recordings, exports, errors, and feature buttons used. Events include a timestamp, the extension version, browser and operating system, whether a licence is connected, and coarse details such as export format or resolution tier. These events are sent even if you decline usage sharing.
By default, events carry no analytics identifier. If you chooseShare usage, the extension creates a random analytics identifier so events from that browser can be associated over time. You can turn usage sharing off in the extension's Settings; this deletes the local analytics identifier. It does not stop the basic events described above or delete events already sent. This identifier is separate from the installation identifier used for licence and device checks.
On uninstall, Chrome opens our app's uninstall page. Its address includes the extension version and, if you agreed to usage sharing, the analytics identifier. Like other requests to a server, network requests expose an IP address to the receiving service.
Website analytics
This website uses PostHog, separately from the extension's usage reporting. The website loads PostHog's script and sends page views and interactions, including pricing and upgrade clicks, to its European API endpoint. These requests can include visitor identifiers and information about your browser and the page you visit. This website analytics service does not receive your extension's screenshots or recordings.
Usage data
To know whether FramioCam is working for people, the extension counts how it is used. These counts are stored on FramioCam's own server and are not sent to any third party. We do not sell them or use them for advertising.
- What is counted. Installs, updates and uninstalls; days, weeks and months the extension is used; captures and recordings started, finished or failed; exports by kind, format and resolution; upgrade and feedback buttons pressed. Each comes with the extension's version, your browser and system (for example "Chrome 141", "macOS"), whether a licence is connected, and your country.
- What is never counted. Page addresses or titles, file names, anything you type, the content of a screenshot or recording, error messages, and exact durations — a recording's length is reported as a range such as "2–5 minutes".
- Without an identifier, by default. Unless you agree otherwise, nothing identifies your browser. Our server files each event under a value derived from the request that changes every day and is never stored, so the same install cannot be followed from one day to the next. Active use is counted by sending one event per day, week and month, keeping only the dates it was last sent.
- With an identifier, if you agree. FramioCam asks once whether you will share usage details. If you say yes, a random id is made and sent with usage events, so we can see how one install is used over time. It is not linked to your account. Say no, or switch it off later in the extension's Settings, and the id is deleted.
- When you uninstall. The browser opens a page that counts the removal and offers one optional question about why.
- Your account. When you sign up, open a checkout or pay, our server records that against your account, so we can tell which channels lead to customers.
- How long it is kept. Individual events are kept for 90 days and then deleted. Daily totals — how many of each event happened on a day, with no identifier — are kept indefinitely.
This website
framiocam.com uses Google Analytics and PostHog to count visits. Until you accept analytics cookies in the banner — or if you decline — neither sets a cookie: Google Analytics sends cookieless signals and PostHog counts visits with a daily hash on its servers. If you accept, they use their cookies. Change your answer at any time from the cookie settings.
If you connect your own cloud
On the Pro and Teams plans you can connect Google Drive (Dropbox and OneDrive are coming). Nothing about it touches a server of ours: your browser talks to Google directly.
- What is sent, and where. The screenshots and exports you save or share, into FramioCam/Photos and FramioCam/Videos in your own Drive. If you turn on Project Sync, your projects go to a FramioCam folder there too. Automatic uploads are enabled by default when you first connect; check the upload and link settings before capturing sensitive content. The default viewer link allows anyone with the link to view the file. No media is uploaded until you connect an account.
- What FramioCam can see in your Drive. It asks Google for the
drive.filepermission, which lets it open only the files it created — nothing else in your Drive. It also reads your email address, to show you which account is connected. - Where the sign-in lives. The access token Google issues is kept in the extension's storage on your computer. It is never sent to us.
- Share links. When you share a file, anyone with its link can view it in your Drive. Delete the file there, or change its sharing, to take the link back.
- Turning it off. Switch off automatic uploads, or disconnect, in the extension's cloud storage settings. Revoke FramioCam's access entirely at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Files already in your Drive stay yours to keep or delete.
FramioCam's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to theGoogle API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use data from Google for advertising, we do not sell it, and no person at FramioCam reads it. Dropbox and OneDrive will follow the same rules when they arrive.
Payment
Paddle is the merchant of record. Card details go to them and never reach us; what we keep is the transaction they report — an amount, a date, a status and an invoice reference — so that your billing page can show you what you bought.
Why the extension asks for what it asks for
- activeTab, tabs — to capture the tab you are looking at and read its size and title, when you press capture.
- scripting, host access — to inject the small helper that scrolls a page for a full-page capture, and during a recording you started, the one that notes cursor positions.
- tabCapture, offscreen — to record what you chose after you press Record, and to keep the recorder alive while it runs. A tab recording is handled by the browser; choosing a screen or a window asks the browser for it, and the browser is what shows you the picker and the indicator. A screen recording captures whatever is on that screen, including windows that are not the browser — so it is worth a glance at what is on it before you start. It is recorded to your own machine either way, and none of it is sent to us.
- storage, unlimitedStorage — to keep your settings, your licence key and your captures on your own machine.
- downloads — to save a finished export to your Downloads folder.
- notifications — to tell you when a long capture or a recording has finished.
- contextMenus — to put capture and recording on the right-click menu, so a capture can be started without opening the popup.
- clipboardWrite — to put a finished screenshot on your clipboard, so it can be pasted straight away.
- identity — to sign in to your own Google Drive when you choose to connect it. Unused until you do.
Mac launch emails
If you ask to hear about FramioCam for Mac, we store your email address for review. If approved, we send a confirmation link. You join the launch list only after you confirm. We use this list for Mac launch news, including availability and release details, rather than general marketing.
The email confirming your place and future launch emails include an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing removes the email address from this list; we keep a protected comparison key to respect your choice. You can join again by confirming a new request. This does not create an account, take payment, or reserve a licence. Unconfirmed requests are removed after 30 days.
Email delivery uses our configured mail providers. We use Telegram to notify us of new requests, including the submitted email address. Request limits use a protected key derived from your network address; we do not store that address with your subscription.
Deleting things
Recordings and screenshots are yours to delete from the library, or by clearing the extension's storage — we cannot delete them for you, because we do not have them. For account data, write to us and we will remove the account, its licences and its activation records.
Changes
If this changes, the date at the top changes with it.
